Product Description
5-Fluorouracil Injection is administered via intravenous route by trained personnel for treatment of various types of cancer. It shows effectiveness against colon, ovarian, stomach, pancreatic, and cervical cancers. This injection contains 5-fluououracil as active compound having molecular formula C4H3FN2O2 with molar mass of 130.077 g/mol. It is a thymidylate synthase inhibitor which works by blocking synthesis of nucleoside that is essential for DNA replication. 5-Fluorouracil Injection can have bioavailability range of 28 to 100% with elimination half-life of about 16 minutes. It gets metabolized in liver by CYP enzyme.
Uses
Fluorouracil is used in the treatment of ovarian cancer, head and neck cancer, cervical cancer, testicular cancer., breast cancer, non-hodgkin lymphoma (nhl), blood cancer, lung cancer, bone cancer and urinary bladder cancer.
How it works
Fluorouracil interferes with the growth of DNA and RNA of the cancer cells by substituting their building blocks. It prevents the cancer cells from growing and multiplying.
Common side effects
Nausea, Vomiting, Weakness, Loss of appetite, Reduced blood platelets, Increased risk of infection, Decreased white blood cell count, Hair loss, Bronchospasm, Diarrhoea, Esophagitis, Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth), Inflammation of the rectum.
